Hyosung moves into scooters with new 125 and 250 MS3

Hyosung MS3-250 125

Hyosung, the fast-expanding range of motorcycles from South Korea, now includes two ‘luxury’ scooter models with a choice of 125cc and 250cc engines. The new Hyosung MS3-125 is £2,149 and the MS3-250 is £2,649 on the road, and reach dealerships this month.

Designed to appeal not only to town and city commuters, but also to those who want to escape at weekends, both Hyosung MS3 scooters offer sleek and aerodynamic contemporary styling with plenty of practical touches. They have low emissions (Euro-3 compliant), ample power and are easy to ride and handle.

The single cylinder 124cc and 249cc engines both use double overhead camshafts and four valves with water cooling. An electric starter and automatic transmission make for easy riding, while twin front and single rear discs ensure plenty of stopping power. A nine litre fuel tank provides a very good range between fill-ups and a low 700mm seat height and plush seating will comfortably accommodate most riders.

The car-like instruments include analogue speedometer and tachometer dials, LCD odometer, trip meter and clock plus warning lights. Twin halogen headlamps and large LED tail and indicator lights ensure high visibility. A tinted screen offers good wind and weather protection.

Distributed by long-established E. P. Barrus Limited, the company has considerable scooter experience and also markets the PGO and Generic ranges of scooters in the UK. Matthew Gilder, general manager of the Barrus Vehicle Division explains:

“The arrival of the MS3 models takes Hyosung into the scooter market for the first time – a sector that has grown by over 16 per cent in the first quarter of this year. Hyosung is gaining an excellent reputation for quality and reliability – as well as value – and the MS3 broadens the brand’s appeal still further.”

Hyosung motorcycles combine outstanding value for money with advanced technologies and contemporary styling. Every model has a full two year warranty and one year’s roadside assistance.

There are now 16 models in the Hyosung range from 125cc to 650cc, including cruisers, sports and commuter bikes, scooters and a road-legal quad. Prices range from £1,949 to £4,999.

The Hyosung range is available at 74 dealers around the country and on-line at hyosung.co.uk.

McGuinness hits 129mph

The 130mph Isle of Man TT lap gets tantalisingly closer. John McGuinness clocked a stunning 129mph lap tonight (Thursday) on the HM Plant Honda in practice for Saturday’s superbike race.

McGuinness had run fourth for most of the first lap but was the quickest on the road from Cronk y Mona through to the Grandstand as he started his flying lap. He lapped at 17m 32.24s, 129.084mph, 7.5s quicker than Guy Martin on the Hydrex Honda and just outside his own lap record of 129.54mph set last year.

As he stopped in the pits to swap over to his superstock bike McGuinness said: “There were so many flies out there. I pulled a tear-off and pulled two at once so I could barely see where I as going on that second lap. The track was really dusty and I had a few slides here there and everywhere as well.”

Guy Martin clocked 128.166 on the Hydrex Honda and Ian Lougher did 128.14mph on the Stobart Honda. HM Plant Honda’s Ian Hutchison was fourth quickest with a lap of 127.54mph ahead of Martin Finnegan’s Klaffi Honda (127.29mph).

Michael Rutter was slowed by a slipping clutch on his first lap with the MSS Kawasaki. He went out on his supersport bike for two laps while the crew rebuilt the clutch. He did 125.00mph on the superbike – the first time he managed two laps in one session on the ZX-10.

Steve Plater did an amazing 121.38mph on the AIM Yamaha – the fastest ever lap for a TT newcomer.  He said: “I’m really comfy on the superbike – it’s the most stable of my three bikes as you’d expect for a full race bike - and it didn’t feel like I was pushing that hard.”

Bruce Anstey was plagued with handling problems on the Relentless Suzuki superbike but topped the Supersport leaderboard with a lap of 122.61mph. Guy Martin was second quickest from Ryan Farquhar and Ian Lougher. McGuinness and Hutchinson both went out late in the session on their 600s and completed a short lap so their laps of 120.24mph and 119.9mph respectively were not really indicative of their true speed.

Anstey was also fastest in Superstock with a 125.10mph lap on the GSX-R1000. McGuinness was second quickest from Finnegan on the MV Agusta.

Kinetic gears up for its new gearless scooter

Pune-based Kinetic India badly needed a mega venture to recreate the magic it effected two decades ago with its innovative gear free Kinetic Honda scooter. It seems to have finally made itself ready for a second revolution.

The company has roped in Taiwan-based scooter giant Sanyang Industry Co (SYM) in a bold move to help achieve this as early as June 2007.

Market talk reveals that though it isn’t clear what the new Indo-Taiwanese model will look like, the new Kinetic SYM scooter is sure to use a four-stroke, single-cylinder 125cc engine. Besides, the new scooter is expected to come loaded with a whole lot of offers and new features and technology. in addition to a healthy list of specifications. The company has however clarified that the new scooters will not use SYM’s ceramic-coated cylinder technology.

For the record, SYM is known for over 25 different scooters including a few motorcycles. The new 125cc scooter is likely to use telescopic forks instead of the inferior leading link-type front suspension, a report said.

The product that will be rolled out of the Kinetic-SYM stable, will be suitably modified to suit Indian conditions and will be the forerunner of several jointly developed models to come. These produced-for-India-in-India scooters will sell through Kinetic’s retail network and crucial to its success will be the ability to maintain SYM quality levels.
